IBEA was founded in 1952 as a subsidiary of the Swiss company AEBI in order to distribute AEBI farm machinery in Italy. Over the years IBEA has expanded its product line, taking on the distribution of chainsaws and subsequently entering the garden machinery business, becoming one of the first companies in Italy to specialise in this new market segment.

In 1984 the decision was taken to produce a new line of lawnmowers. The growth in volume resulted in the opening of a new 5,500 square meter factory in 1989. In 1994 the company was bought out from AEBI by IBEA's management. In 1995 production of brushcutters started and in 1996 a new product line was launched for farm, gardens and construction; a range of crawler carriers.

Vision, IBEA's first garden tractor, was born in 2002 and soon after in 2005 the company invested in the construction of a new warehouse in Tradate in order to concentrate activities in one location for better integration efficiency.
