About Eric Overall
Eric Overall fom Suffolk is the winner of a BRILL evolution 36EM electric rotary mower. 75-year-old Eric and his partner Gerald have been developing their garden for 15 years. His love of a wide range of plants has led him to divide it into beds for exotics, alpines, mixed borders and more recently, a new dry bed. Many of the garden’s feature are home-made with recycled materials. “I try to have colour in my garden for as much of the year as possible,” Eric said.
The judge’s comments
“Eric Overall’s front garden is a corner plot that sweeps around the whole of his bungalow. Despite its size and awkward shape, it’s full of colour and interest, including unusual plants and interesting features – many home made.
“Eric loves his plants and his garden and it shows in the care and attention he takes looking after them all. He’s not a mad plant collector, but Eric is someone who knows what he wants, knows a good plant when he sees one and makes sure he uses it to its full potential.”
Runners up
Chris Perks in Oxford and Bijal Mistray in Lancashire received runner up prizes of BRILL RazorCut Premium 33 cylinder mowers.
Our judge
Our judge for this year’s competition was Geoff Hodge. Geoff was Gardening Editor for Garden News between 1993 and 2000, and judged Gardener of the Year during that time so he’s an old hand and knows just what to look for. Since leaving GN, Geoff worked for the RHS for 8 years and is now a freelance garden author and broadcaster.
